Six Shortcuts: Organized Closet Space
1. Plan Plan Plan. This will save you time in the long run.
2. Sort: Take all belongings out of the closet. Realistically look at all items that are to go back into your closet. Remove all items that are not supposed to be in that space. Place like items together. Closets should be convenient to the location in which the items should be used.
Example: What are like items that belong in each closet? For instance, the bedroom closet does not need the family basketball in it. The basketball could be stored in a recreational rack/type closet, maybe close to the outside door. |
3. Examine: You will need a trashcan, and assorted containers/boxes. - Label containers with our PDA system - Purge, Donate, and Adopt. Purge: is where the trash can comes in. Trash goes into the can. Donate: is where your unwanted items go. Examine each item for wear, tears, and flair. Most charities only take your old belongings if in a sellable condition. Adopt: If it is worth keeping, it must have a good home. A place to call it’s own.
4. Count: How many items will go back into the totally cleared closet? Measure the height of each garment if it is a clothing closet. How many pairs of shoes will go back? There is only so much space!
5. Containerize: Picking the right choice of container/shelving and clothing rods at this point is crucial for your organized closet space. Please know this before you go out and buy any organizing containers, shelving or rods. MEASURE TWICE - BUY ONCE
